Book Review: "Rumor Has It" by Elisabeth Grace

(Limelight #1)
Synopsis:

All publicity is good publicity, right? Unless you’re recent college grad Ellie Wagner and an embarrassing video of you and your boyfriend goes viral. Every man in your life abandons you, but who knew a one-minute clip of your latest doomed relationship would brand you a slut, prevent you from getting your perfect job, and force you to keep doing the one thing you swore you’d never do again…live with your mother.

But staying with mom and her latest boy-toy (is this husband number four or five?) until your life turns around might not be all bad. Especially when you fall – literally – at the feet of a sexy, green-eyed stranger who offers you freedom and a life of luxury on a gold-rimmed platter.

There’s only one little problem – the man of your dreams is none other than Mason Nash, the latest hip-hop star busting up the music charts. Fame and fortune are his calling cards and he’s vying to steal the show on a new reality TV series that will catapult him into mainstream stardom. Hello spotlight.

The man behind the famous persona is perfect for Ellie in every way, but can she overcome the ugly pitfalls that come with Mason's celebrity status? Or will she be forced to choose between the man she loves and the independent life she longs for? After all, fame and fortune aren’t always what they seem and not all publicity is good publicity…

Review:
3.5 - 4 Stars!

So, this was a fun book to read….it was a sweet, romantic and sexy read that kept me turning the pages from the start to finish.  I read this easily in one day….and enjoyed every minute of it.

Two words:  Mason Nash. Ok three….yummy!  Mason Nash is a very popular Hip Hop artist. He is big, tall, buff, hot….oh, I got off track. He is a very popular artist that is known to have had many hot women at his disposal. He needs to get away…..relax a little before his next tour. Life can be stressful and he has many things he deals with, along with keeping his drunk mom in line. He needs a break!

Ellie is a very strong girl who has some hang-ups with publicity given her recent “run-in” with a certain video of herself that happened to go viral….so she is staying away from the public eye and social media as much as she can. Well, that’s all fine and dandy until her job forces her to meet Mr. Publicity himself…but, she doesn’t know it!

Ellie works for a property management company and she has to go to the rental property a client reserved, find the missing key (because the key wasn’t in the lock box) and then place the key in the box, all before the client gets there. It appears that she can’t do it the easy way…and this is where the giggles and the fun starts. Her boss is a royal jerk and if she doesn’t take care of it, she will have hell to deal with! Needless to say, her ‘entrance’ is NOT a quiet one, or painless. The meeting with Mr. Nash himself was a smile-worthy one because clearly he was intrigued, and Ellie had NO idea who he was! At first, Mason thinks she is a groupie trying to get into the house, so he is going to have fun with her.  This, of course, will be at her expense, especially when he realizes she doesn’t know who HE is. I really enjoyed this exchange between the two of them….and it really set the tone for the whole story. It made me giggle and smile during the whole ‘introduction’. It was just playful and fun!

Mason has a dimple that makes an appearance when he smiles….and that is enough to melt ME!! Ellie found him very attractive….and the description she gives when he smiles at her:

“Seriously? That attractive and somehow the heavens figured he needed a dimple, too? For what? In case there was a girl alive who didn’t want to drop their panties for him upon contact? It was just unfair.”

This story is told in a dual POV (love these kind!) and the way that the story is told, it makes for a very fun-loving and comedic story about how their relationship progresses. Ellie never loses her strong streak, but Mason never gives up and is always there to take care of her and break down her walls. They both have their hang-ups and actually work through them each time. At some points, I wanted to shake Ellie because of her inner thoughts that we were privy to. She was so strong in some areas, but her way of thinking in others was so out of character….shoulders needed shaking, but just a few times.

This book was on a very even keel all the way through. Their relationship was so fun loving and easy going most of the time; you couldn’t help but root for their relationship to make it. What was originally going to be a summer fling, their relationship couldn’t stop there. There were too many feelings and emotions involved by the end of summer, so they decided to make a go of their relationship. However, that meant Ellie was in the public eye…something she was desperately trying to avoid. Mason did as much as he could to shield her from the tabloids, but he couldn’t stop all the stories that were popping up. Ups and downs, misunderstandings and miscommunications happened, but they were worked out rather quickly. There was one major misunderstanding that caused some serious heartache. This particular “problem” was a little predictable, but even then, it was still hard to see the pain and despair they BOTH went through until they figured out what caused it all and it was rectified.

This book definitely has a HEA….but my biggest complaint was that the end felt a little rushed once it finally got there. We worked up to this BIG problem during the whole book, and then BAM!, it was rectified immediately. I am anxious to read more from Elisabeth and hope to see more of Mason and Ellie as well. This is a standalone book in a series, so this book finishes in full, but Ellie and Mason will make appearances in future books. Overall, I really enjoyed this read and found it light and upbeat.

I rate this book 3.5-4 fun loving, upbeat stars.
