Blog Tour Stop + Giveaway! "Beck" by Harper Sloan

Beck
(Corps Security #3)

Synopsis:
DEE

I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.

But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.

All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.

So I did the only thing I know how to do.

I run.

But he just won’t let me go.

BECK

The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.

To make her mine.

She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.

She’s it for me and she knows it.

She’s just too scared to admit it.

Review:
5 Stars!!

This synopsis already said *SO* much to me….but, I didn’t read it until I started writing this review, so I went into the book blind. I will say, once again, pay attention to the details. If anyone can work a small detail that is so minute into something that is so symbolic, it’s Harper. Bravo Harper, bravo.  I will also reiterate that I have never openly cried during a book….ever. Tears, yes maybe….but cried; never.

I was very lucky to jump right into Beck right after reviewing Axel and Cage….I was still on the high from those two books, so I was very honored to be able to be on the blog tour, and the timing was great!

Jumping into Beck, I figured I had about half the story of Dee and Beck by reading Axel and Cage. We met Beck….and saw the lust through Dee’s eyes.

“Who in the hot hunk of sex are you?”  I might have been mortified if it hadn’t been for the warm smile that instantly took his face from ruggedly handsome to drop dead, pussy quivery sexy.

It had to be love….right? Instant, gratifying love? Sadly, it wasn’t that easy for Dee. We knew nothing….absolutely nothing about Dee from the first two books based on what we learned in Beck. Dee had a very rough start in life…..and Beck was the man that saw right through her. He saw her soul. He saw her walls. He saw HER. I loved how he took care of her….close and from afar. That, my friends, is true love. He knew. But she wanted to run….because that was the easiest way to protect herself.

Now, Beck and Dee have mind blowing, blackout style sex…..as in worlds collide; that good. When you have to take inventory of what has survived a session of passionate lovemaking with Beck, you know that is good lovin’.  And this couple has some serious dirrrrrty talking going on!! He is so possessive of her and the way he ‘marks’ her, it just made me smile and squirm. I love a good alpha male…..strong, bold and confident, but I also love an alpha with emotion too. I got to see that in Beck. Sexy!!! Having said that, Dee escapes and only lets him in on her terms. She is running. He is going to be there for her. Beck sees all. He sees the unhappiness she masks, the sorrow she hides and the pains she pushes away. He sees her long for love, but she refuses to let a man in.

A good deal of this book is spent on us getting to understand the makeup of Dee and what makes her tick…..what is causing her all this turmoil and heartache. I think it was so necessary for US to be able to see this, to read this and to feel this to make us better understand the wonderfulness that is Beck.  After reading this, and seeing through his eyes what he saw….I fell more in love with Beck. He is a softer alpha, but don’t let that fool you. He is all man and all alpha.  It was neat seeing the whole story unfold, but with their own perspective. But, it only adds to the depth of the overall story.

This was dual POV between Beck and Dee.  It is NOT a retelling of the same story. All those little details Harper has thrown into each previous book, they are playing out right before you. I loved it!!! I loved the “aha” moments I got when I saw it from their POV….individually.

As the story goes from what we originally saw from the other peoples’ POV and into the current, we start to see danger and turmoil unfold. Even in death, Brandon has a stranglehold on the lives that he touched so forcefully. Again, details….all in the details. I can’t say it enough….the way the books are all woven into each other, it worked so well!! I loved it. I think back on the little things thrown in here and there, and I just smile.

Drama ensues….serious drama. I will say here, now, that my “crying during a book” cherry has been popped….thanks a lot Harper. I cried. I cried openly and had to clear my eyes many times to get through the meat of this story. This story was told with such emotion, such heartache and heartbreak. I believe that I am completely addicted….and the wait for the next book might make me go batty.

Now, I will finish off this review by saying this: the epilogue on this book was amazing. Simply put, I called it the ‘epic’logue. It was epic. It tied up any loose ends that needed tying for ‘this’ story, it gave us hope for the next story and made me really anxious to see where Harper takes the story of the crew. I really felt like I could walk away with a smile after all the pain she caused me. Yes, I am openly blaming Harper…..after all, she did make me cry. This was the best ending I could have imagined after going through what I did. I wanted to sing, “Nailed It!!”….but I don’t have a singing voice. =)

5 emotional and heart-rendering stars. Amazing Harper…..truly amazing.

Love,
Bethany

Harper Sloan

Harper Sloan
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husbands chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.

Book Review: Perilous Promises by Christi Williams

Perilous Promises
(Hawk Point Romances #2)
SYNOPSIS:
Rating: Sensual Romance - Controversial

Her ex-husband wants to rescue her. Her brother wants to rescue her. Her co-workers want to help rescue her. Her daddy wants to rescue her. She can survive anything except the men who love her!
Perris Dalton doesn't need a man. She left southwest Wyoming broken, so transformed by fighting cancer even her big hunk of a lawman couldn't make love to her. Now she's back. Her new job is to mitigate conflicts with raptors at a power plant's coal mine. There's no reason for her path to cross her ex-husband's. But when an environmental demonstration inexplicably centers in on her, Sheriff Noah Dalton steps in, confident he can win back the woman who once walked out on him.
As the demonstration spirals into personal attacks, Noah, Perris's father the sheep rancher, and her brother the college student, hatch a secret plot to protect her. In an epic contest of wills with a lone woman survivor determined to solve her own problems, and three modern Western heroes just as determined to show their love by saving her, all hell starts to break loose.

Review:
4.5 Stars!

This is my second novel by Christi Williams and it's safe to say that her books get better and better. I absolutely LOVE the fact that they are completely realistic. HUGE PLUS for me. This allows me, as a reader,  to connect with the story lines.

"Noah loved Perri. He would always love her. But he would let her go, precisely because he loved her."

Five years ago, Perris and Noah Dalton had been married and very much in love. Then, Perris got breast cancer. Noah started seeing her as a very fragile thing. He wanted to protect her, help her, shelter her. But what he didn't count on, was losing his ability to make love to her because of all this. He had unconsciously stopped seeing her as the woman he married... the woman he desired. Unfortunately, Perris was well aware of how her husband saw her now. Heartbroken and devastated, she made one of the toughest decisions ever... she filed for divorce. Now, I must clarify for those that don't read books that cover topics like cancer. The book does not go into the details regarding her days of battling cancer or anything like that. We get all this as background information.

Well anyway, after the divorce, Perris had left town. Now, a stronger and 'new' woman, she had recently moved back for her new job at a mining company. She never expected for an environmental demonstration to spiral out of control and use her as their punching bag for their attacks. She certainly never expected Sheriff Noah Dalton to have to step in.

You see, Benjamin Collins, leader of the environmental activists, was a TAD CRAZY and he would stop at nothing until he got his way. Even though Benjamin scared Perris, she would never let it show. Perris was very stubborn and had her mind made up -- SHE would protect herself. She sure as hell did not need Noah or anyone else for that matter, to protect her.

"She hadn't wanted him riding in like a white knight to save her. She especially didn't want him feeling sorry for her."

Perris had left once because she hated how Noah pitied her, how he basically trampled her trying to help her. So now, having returned a stronger and even more stubborn woman, Noah was about to meet one heck of a tough challenge. How could he protect the woman he loved when she made it near damn impossible? Well, by recruiting the help of her father and younger brother. In Noah's defense, Perris left him no choice!!! It was clear as day that this Benjamin guy was dangerous, yet Perris would get angry every time Noah intervened... or tried to at least. See, Noah was up for re-election as the town's Sheriff, so he had to be super careful with everything he did. He couldn't publicly pick sides and had to be fair and neutral. So in a way, Perris made his job a tad more difficult, in my opinion. Because like I said, he was madly in love with her, but she wouldn't take his advice. She wanted to do everything on her own and sometimes, got herself in situations that warranted Noah's worry.

"He loved her. Always had, and probably always would. The problem was, he didn't understand her. But that didn't mean he didn't want to try."

Gosh. I loved Noah. He wanted Perris back and he wasn't giving up. He tried and tried and tried. Lets just say, I would've given into Noah WAY sooner than Perris did! Hahaha!! But once she did, though...ohmygosh. Their passion bled through the pages. I never once doubted their love for each other because honestly, their chemistry was undeniable.

"It makes me happy to see you still fighting for the life you want." His voice hushed. "I'm just sorry you thought you had to do it all alone." - Noah

Of course, getting over one of their issues didn't mean they were both ready to dive into their relationship head first. Noah still wanted to protect Perris at all costs, while she wanted nothing but to do it herself. They also still had to work through the fact that Perris' body wasn't like any other. She was still self-conscious over it, especially remembering Noah's little problem when they were married.  I truly felt bad for her. I won't pretend to understand how having one breast would feel like, because I sure as hell don't know, but the way Christi Williams carefully developed this subject, made me sympathize with Perris. It made me want even more for her and Noah to work things out and finally get their well deserved happy ending.  And they did. :) They sure did.

I look forward to reading more from this author. I've come to realize that I love reading Western romances and Christi Williams' books have a uniqueness that I truly like -- they are realistic yet an enjoyable escape.
I recommend this book!

"There's always been the two of us, no matter where we were physically. We're eternal, Perri." - Noah

Blog Tour Stop + Giveaway! "Three Broken Promises" by Monica Murphy

Three Broken Promises
(One Week Girlfriend #3)

Synopsis:
Breakout New Adult sensation Monica Murphy returns with a hot new contemporary romance—a heartfelt story of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption.

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me

Review:
4.5 Stars

Finally! I got my hands on Jen and Colin's story! Eek!! When I met these two characters in the previous books in the Drew + Fable series, I knew there had to be a juicy story behind them. Sure enough, there is! I will start off by saying that Jen and Colin are two STUBBORN asses! I swear, I might have wanted to slap them both more than a few times along the way. Talk about angst --Monica Murphy sure nailed it! Three Broken Promises is a book full of guilt, shame, and secrets that I could not stop reading!

"I broke promises. To you, to your parents, to your brother. I don't want to break any more."

Jen and Colin have a past. They've known each other since they were young, but after tragedy struck them with the loss of Jen's brother, everything fell apart. They basically lost contact and it isn't until Colin rescues Jen from her current situation, that they finally reconnect. Jen moves in with Colin and starts working in his restaurant. They spend everyday together, yet they both are keeping secrets. Secrets that could potentially hurt each other...deeply.

"I'm the last guy she should be with. I have this way of ruining those I'm closest to. No way could I do that to her."

Throughout the book, I kept wishing they would finally find their inner strength and just come out and tell each other how they really feel. I mean, it's obvious they're madly in love, yet they both push each other way!! *Sigh* I guess I kind of get it, though. Jen is full of shame and Colin is swimming in guilt. What a pair, right? Well, yes. In fact, they are just what they both need. Problem? They are the only ones who won't accept that little fact.

All Jen really wants is independence, freedom, and the only way she would accomplish that would be by leaving. Colin, on the other hand, feels like he has let Jen down way too many times already. If he gives into his feelings for her, nothing good would come out of it. He would only end up hurting her more. So in his opinion, letting her go would be the best thing. See? THIS would be one of those slapping moments I mentioned in the beginning. :) I have to say, even though their actions at times pissed me off, I couldn't help but feel bad for them. The way Monica Murphy wrote this book allowed me to feel their pain... their heartache. She allowed me, as a reader, to understand them...

"How did you know I needed you?" ...
"Because I needed you, too. I can't live without you."

Can I get a HALLELUJAH! Finally!!!! They accept the reality that they are better off together than apart! Phew! I felt like I had been holding my breath the entire time I was reading... until that beautiful moment!

Their journey was far from easy. They had to overcome a lot of rough spots before finally accepting their fate...together. All their struggles were worth it, though. They were each stronger individually and even more so as a couple. They were both finally free from their inner battles and burdens. They were both happy. Loved the ending!

P.S.
If you love Drew and Fable as much as I do, then you'll be happy to know that they are both very much present throughout this book! Yay!!

As if that’s not weird enough, ever since he brought me into his world, nothing really makes sense. Everyone hates me. Everyone wants something from him. And yet the only thing Drew seems to want is . . . me.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. Drew is sweet, sexy, and hiding way more secrets than I am. All I know is, I want to be there for him—permanently.

Owen's story
New Adult bestselling author Monica Murphy winds up her sensational series with this sexy story of two college kids with nothing in common but a bunch of baggage and a burning attraction.

Over. That about sums up everything in my life. Suspended from my college football team and forced to cut back my hours at The District bar because of my crappy grades, I can’t keep turning to my sister, Fable, and her pro-football playing husband, Drew, to bail me out. I just can’t seem to find my own way. Weed and sex are irresistible temptations—and it’s messed up that I secretly hand over money to our junkie mom. A tutor is the last thing I want right now—until I get a look at her.

Chelsea is not my type at all. She’s smart and totally shy. I’m pretty sure she’s even a virgin. But when she gives me the once over with those piercing blue eyes, I’m really over. But in a different way. I won’t deny her ass is killer, but it’s her brain and the way she seems to crave love—like no one’s ever given her any—that make me want her more than any girl I’ve ever met.
