Cage is a dual POV book; it
is written so well and runs seamlessly through the scenes that I didn’t have to
look back or try to figure something out. It just worked. It was an adventure
worth taking…I enjoyed it *so* much. A
word of advice, pay verrrrry close attention to the details, no matter how
minute they are. Harper has such a good way of working details into her stories
that it all plays out in the big picture in the end. I think she has got to be
one of my favorite new authors….she had me enjoying the story, but she worked
every single angle. I loved it!! Ok….moving along.
Bethany’s disclaimer: to ME, a good book will make you feel
emotion; deep emotion that hits you in the gut. It’s not often that I tear up
over a book…..so I know it’s a good one when it can pull that from me. Cage did that to me. Yes….I got tears. Crocodile
tears. But, I didn’t cry….I don’t do that. Now that I have admitted that,
let’s carry on.
We got a glimpse of Cage and
his protective side in Axel, and we knew that he was a man true to his word and
an honest one at that. But now we get to see a whole other side to him. The
sexy beast.
He
made me smile.
He
made me giggle.
He
made me blush.
He
made me twist my hair around my fingers and made my dimples come out. ß True story…..he even made me blush a
little while biting my lip.
Yes, ladies…he is HOT. Swoon-worthily, deliciously HOT.
Melissa is a very sexy, very
confident and very straight forward girl that doesn’t put up with any crap from
any man. She works hard to provide for her family, and she is a very selfless
person making sure they have what they need before she gets what she needs. She
learned through harsh circumstances that NO man is worth her time or efforts.
Cage meets Melissa at the
pediatrician’s office when he takes Axel and Izzy’s son in while Izzy is
fretting around about everything being perfect for their wedding….it was funny
to see the reaction bouncing between Cage and Melissa. It was instant
attraction and it was pure sexiness from the get-go. But, she was going to fight it tooth and
nail:
I might be many things, but
I am also smart enough to learn from the past. Smart enough to know that no man
who oozes so much alpha male will be happy with a woman who isn’t weak. Or, he
won’t settle until he makes me weak, and I will never be that bitch.
The guys meet up with the
ladies at the bachelorette party after the guys had their own bachelor party
elsewhere, but Axel couldn’t stay away from Izzy. Melissa is out on the dance
floor when Cage comes up behind her, and let me tell you, that was
knee-weakening sexy!! The way he grabbed her, the way he came up behind her and
spoke to her….the way it was described had me weak! Weak, I tell you! They danced together and I ‘felt’
the intensity between the two of them and it was so very sexy. That was a panty
scorcher!!! It totally set the stage for the mind-numbing sensuality that spins
around them.
*fans self* (I have to make it through
this review somehow, and I am finding myself re-reading while trying to write
this!!)
We make it to the
wedding….and Melissa is so determined to fight the attraction that was so
obvious while they were together at the club. However, she is smart to admit
her resolve is failing:
When everyone is busy
starting at the bride, I am busy looking at her walking partner. I am really
beginning to doubt my quest to stay away from him. When his eyes meet mine
through the crowded sanctuary, I know that it was only a matter of time before
we collide.
The next scene that made me
squirm and just melt was the slow dance at Axel and Izzy’s wedding. It was so raw, so sexual, so intense…I loved
reading it and ‘feeling’ it. Cage is all man and he knows what his body wants,
but is also smart enough to know what his mind wants….and what the difference
is. The chemistry between these two is undeniable!!
Having her in my arms feels
like coming home. I am not one to believe in all that love at first sight
bullshit, but even as cynical as I am, I can recognize something bigger than
lust at work. My body wants her; that is
no secret, but the level of want is borderline craving. I need her. Needing
someone is not something I am used to. No, I am used to being needed…something
this woman clearly doesn’t want.
Pure, unadulterated
sexuality shooting off of them….
…..his eyes are always burning into my skin. When my eyes meet
his, it is pure fire. I could feel his gaze caressing every inch of my skin and
it was slowly, agonizingly driving me out of my mind. ~Melissa
I won’t go so far as saying it was love at first sight, but it
damn sure was hard on at first sight. ~Cage
Trying to explain what made
you smile inside and squirm, sometimes words just don’t do it justice….so bear
with me through all the giggling and swooning. This book was all kinds of hot
and sexy!!
As
their relationship progresses, we get to see this hard as nails alpha male turn
into the sexy beast that he is. With Cage and Melissa finally accepting that
their relationship is going to happen, they let go and just live. They grow
together, they love together and they hurt together. I really enjoyed the progression of their
relationship….it was penned perfectly.
We also deal with a psycho
“friend” of his….and she raised all kinds of hairs on the back of my neck. She
was CrAzY….like, off her rocker, lost her mind cray-cray! This “friend” causes
some serious drama and it really ramps up the energy in the book. The book has
some serious moments that perfectly accent the sexiness in the book. It was a
good mix of them both. Cage and Melissa
both have a great demeanor and they are both smart mouths, with just enough
stubbornness in them both to have them pulling back enough to make this a very
believable love. It was a great ride and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. At the end of the book we are treated to the
prologue for Beck, which releases at the end of December. What a treat that
was….I seriously canNOT get enough of these guys. Harper…you have me hooked!
