Beck
(Corps Security #3)
Synopsis:
DEE
I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.
But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.
All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.
So I did the only thing I know how to do.
I run.
But he just won’t let me go.
BECK
The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.
To make her mine.
She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.
She’s it for me and she knows it.
She’s just too scared to admit it.
Review:
5 Stars!!
This
synopsis already said *SO* much to
me….but, I didn’t read it until I started writing this review, so I went into
the book blind. I will say, once again, pay attention to the details. If anyone
can work a small detail that is so minute into something that is so symbolic,
it’s Harper. Bravo Harper, bravo. I will
also reiterate that I have never
openly cried during a book….ever. Tears, yes maybe….but cried; never.
I was very
lucky to jump right into Beck right after reviewing Axel and Cage….I was still
on the high from those two books, so I was very honored to be able to be on the
blog tour, and the timing was great!
Jumping
into Beck, I figured I had about half the story of Dee and Beck by reading Axel
and Cage. We met Beck….and saw the lust through Dee’s eyes.
“Who in
the hot hunk of sex are you?” I might have
been mortified if it hadn’t been for the warm smile that instantly took his
face from ruggedly handsome to drop dead, pussy quivery sexy.
It had to
be love….right? Instant, gratifying love? Sadly, it wasn’t that easy for Dee.
We knew nothing….absolutely nothing about Dee from the first two books based on
what we learned in Beck. Dee had a very rough start in life…..and Beck was the
man that saw right through her. He saw her soul. He saw her walls. He saw HER. I loved how he took care of
her….close and from afar. That, my friends, is true love. He knew. But she
wanted to run….because that was the easiest way to protect herself.
Now, Beck
and Dee have mind blowing, blackout style sex…..as in worlds collide; that
good. When you have to take inventory of what has survived a session of
passionate lovemaking with Beck, you know that is good lovin’. And this couple has some serious dirrrrrty
talking going on!! He is so possessive of her and the way he ‘marks’ her, it
just made me smile and squirm. I love a good alpha male…..strong, bold and
confident, but I also love an alpha with emotion too. I got to see that in
Beck. Sexy!!! Having said that, Dee escapes and only lets him in on her terms.
She is running. He is going to be there for her. Beck sees all. He sees the
unhappiness she masks, the sorrow she hides and the pains she pushes away. He
sees her long for love, but she refuses to let a man in.
A good
deal of this book is spent on us getting to understand the makeup of Dee and
what makes her tick…..what is causing her all this turmoil and heartache. I
think it was so necessary for US
to be able to see this, to read this and to feel this to make us better
understand the wonderfulness that is Beck.
After reading this, and seeing through his eyes what he saw….I fell more
in love with Beck. He is a softer alpha, but don’t let that fool you. He is all
man and all alpha. It was neat seeing
the whole story unfold, but with their own perspective. But, it only adds to
the depth of the overall story.
This was
dual POV between Beck and Dee. It is NOT
a retelling of the same story. All those little details Harper has thrown into
each previous book, they are playing out right before you. I loved it!!! I
loved the “aha” moments I got when I saw it from their POV….individually.
As the
story goes from what we originally saw from the other peoples’ POV and into the
current, we start to see danger and turmoil unfold. Even in death, Brandon has
a stranglehold on the lives that he touched so forcefully. Again, details….all
in the details. I can’t say it enough….the way the books are all woven into
each other, it worked so well!! I loved it. I think back on the little things
thrown in here and there, and I just smile.
Drama
ensues….serious drama. I will say here, now, that my “crying during a book”
cherry has been popped….thanks a lot Harper. I cried. I cried openly and had to
clear my eyes many times to get through the meat of this story. This story was
told with such emotion, such heartache and heartbreak. I believe that I am completely
addicted….and the wait for the next book might make me go batty.
Now, I will finish off this review by saying this: the epilogue on this book was amazing. Simply put, I called it the ‘epic’logue. It was epic. It tied up any loose ends that needed tying for ‘this’ story, it gave us hope for the next story and made me really anxious to see where Harper takes the story of the crew. I really felt like I could walk away with a smile after all the pain she caused me. Yes, I am openly blaming Harper…..after all, she did make me cry. This was the best ending I could have imagined after going through what I did. I wanted to sing, “Nailed It!!”….but I don’t have a singing voice. =)

About the Author:
Harper Sloan
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husbands chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!
Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
