Book Review: "The Mourning After" by Adriane Leigh

Synopsis:

Still reeling from a painful past, Georgia Montgomery escapes her pain by buying a beach house on the North Carolina coast. She hopes a summer filled with sun, sand, margaritas and best friends will heal her, but when an unexpected visitor shows up, her past, present and future collide.
Georgia is instantly drawn to Tristan Howell, the bronze-skinned, golden-haired stranger with an easy smile and eyes the deepest shade of green she's ever seen. She tries to deny the depth of her feelings for him, but just like an addiction- one look, one touch, one taste is never enough. With Tristan she loses control of the lonely world she's constructed for herself and learns that moving forward isn't possible while she's still chained to the events of her past.
Before the summer is over friendships will be tested, hearts shattered and lives changed, and waiting for Georgia to find herself may destroy them all.

Review:
5 Stars

"I want you, all of you, Georgia. And I want you to want me too."

Full of romance, passion, and angst, "The Mourning After," kept me turning pages anxious to read more
I want to start by saying, this book was not what I expected.. at all.
It was so much better

The book starts off with Georgia, the lead character, buying a house at the NC shore. She invites her best friends, Silas and Drew to tag along for the summer with plans of fixing up the house. Drew invites her new boyfriend, Gavin, along and he brings along a friend.
My, my, my.. Tristan.

Right from the moment they meet, Georgia knows she's in trouble. I mean, who could turn down a walking sex God? So yeah, trouble indeed. You see, Georgia has a boyfriend whom she lives with back home in DC, Kyle. Do you see where this is going?
Her relationship with Kyle goes way back to their childhood. He was the person she could always count on.. he knew her secret.. her past.

As usual, things don't go as planned.. so much more happens. So.Much.More.
Tristan and Georgia develop a friendship that quickly turns into something she never expected.  Queue the HOTNESS in this book.

"I can feel what I do to you: your heart pounding, your chest heaving, your nipples hardening (...) your legs shifting back and forth, begging me to touch you."

"I want my tongue all over your body."

My heart raced and ached for Tristan and Georgia. There is so much passion between them, you feel their chemistry sizzling off the pages.

"Every night I go to bed and I think about you. Every morning I get out of bed and can't wait to see you..."

"I want to be with you. I can't get you out of my head."

There were moments when I wanted to smack some sense into Georgia, but I also fully understand why she does and says certain things. Her story is just.. heart-breaking. That was one sad scene to read, let me tell ya. So yes, I understand her, which is why, even though I got pissed sometimes, I never felt like I disliked her character. But her actions and certain decisions, led to a lot of angsty, page-turning scenes.

"I've waited  so long to feel anything and you make me feel, so I'm not letting you go without a fight."

Overall, this was a very well written book. I definitely consider it a must-read. There were a few details that reminded be of Thoughtless by SC Stephens but the general plot had it's own thing going on, so it was just a great read. There was a lot of character development and the story line had a smooth flow.  I have to say, I love Silas and Drew! These two always speak their minds, without filter, definitely adding humor to an emotional plot.

Regarding the ending.. I really don't know how to express my feelings.. so I'll just write what literally happened..
The book was finally in a good place... great place really.. and then.. the end --> my reaction: "DON'T END NOW!!!! I WANT MORE!!!!" (with a huge grin across my face, mind you)
So yes, when I read those wonderful words saying that the story was going to continue in a sequel expected to be released this fall.. my other reaction was: "SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" :)

So, you can say, I liked the ending and loved the book!!!

Highly recommend you read it!

"It felt like I was finally right where I wanted to be. It felt like I was home."
