DIRTY ENGLISH by @ilsamaddenmills - #REVIEW

DIRTY ENGLISH by Ilsa Madden-Mills
- SYNOPSIS -
A scarred fighter.
A girl with rules.
One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

- REVIEW: 4 STARS -
Ever since her debut novel, I’ve been a huge Ilsa Madden-Mills fan. I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed ALL her books. Her male characters are always swoon-worthy and her story lines are ones that have always hooked me, and DIRTY ENGLISH was no different. You need to meet Declan!! Not only was he incredibly HOT, but he was a romantic at heart…and a MMA fighter WITH A BRITISH ACCENT. I mean, c’mon! Quite the sinfully perfect combination, if you ask me. Dork Note: I totally read the scenes in his POV doing a British accent in my head… :-/

“Love is a knife that cuts out your heart piece by piece…”

Both Declan and Elizabeth had scars from their pasts; experiences that molded their current lifestyles. Elizabeth lived her life by HER rules. Everything she did had to be according to how she wanted to do it. She had to have control…not that I blame her. While I didn’t really love her character or connect with her, I did find myself giggling during some of the scenes. She was awkwardly funny at times and I loved how Ilsa included those little details that all girls have done at least once while dating a guy. You know, those things we do when we think no one is looking? Those creeper-like things that if anyone knew we’d done, they’d probably look at us differently? Yep. We’ve all done those at some point in time. Granted Elizabeth did way more than I could ever imagine, but yeah… It was pretty funny and those scenes made me giggle out loud more than once.

“You think you want me?” he said tightly. “You can’t handle me, Elizabeth. I can see it in your eyes. You’re scared of something, maybe not me, but something.”

Declan had recently gotten out of a relationship with quite the little poisonous and manipulative girl that I absolutely loathed. So falling for each other was something Declan and Elizabeth least expected or wanted. But then again, their connection was too strong to ignore. However, it was far from easy for them. There was A LOT of back and forth and some outside factors that definitely made things more complicated for them.

The overall plotline was good and I really enjoyed reading it. LOVED the secondary characters: Dax and Shelley! The banter these two added to the story was GREAT! Dax, Declan’s twin brother, sure made me laugh. He was so down to earth and relaxed. I could easily tell that he enjoyed his life and now, I can’t help but want his book! I can’t wait to see him fall in love. He needs a girl to keep him on his toes. I was kind of hoping him and Shelley would end up together. They were both sort of the same – free-spirited and funny, so it would be fun to see them as a couple, in my opinion. However, based on how this book ended, it might just be something I yearn for…but who knows? Ilsa always has something up her sleeve. ;) Four stars to Declan and Elizabeth’s story!!

“This. You. Me. I want it forever.”
