This book is the final book in the After Dark series by Kahlen Aymes. If you have not read the first two books, I would recommend you checking those out here, because they need to be read first:
To start out, I need to stress that this book was the best finale this series could have ever had. I got sucked in with Angel After Dark and Confessions After Dark....completely. I was in love with their love. Their feelings and their fears were real...and I really got wrapped up in their story. The emotions in this book are magnified so much and the amount of *love* felt between Alex and Angel is so deep, so intense, it is just amazing. Kahlen did a really good job making you feel the connection between these two characters and it is very sincere. I know that insta-love is not for everyone, and for some they don't feel it is true or real. I personally know it happens, so I really enjoy super alpha-protective-loving characters that give their all to make their one true love happy. Angel and Alex had a whirlwind romance, but this book solidified the perfect connection they had.
Every time he touched her, it was perfect and earth shattering; stunning and staggering. Angel knew she couldn't fight it anymore and didn't want to. She was completely and utterly lost to him...and he to her.
I *loved* Alex. Like....he was the epitome of The Man!! Along with all his sexiness, the alpha-crazed lover that Alex is, we also got to see a very strong and determined man. He loved Angel with conviction and was dead set on making it known to the world. He wouldn't walk away and wouldn't back down. She. Was. His.
It was the way he lived his life, the way his relationship with Angel had been from day one; all or nothing.
Angel was very worried about falling deeper in love with Alex, and allowing herself to accept the relationship for what it was, because of the heartbreak she was certain she would feel. We saw a lot of her inner dialogue and fear trying to make sense of everything. Angel sees a lot of crap in her daily job that it compounded the issues she already has with relationships based on what happened with her mother and father and her past love life. It started to irk me when she would incessantly worry about this love that was so true and so pure...it was REAL. On one hand I understood her fear, but on the other I wanted to tell her to "just go with it!!!!" because she needed to let go and just love.
If it ended, it would fucking hurt--like nothing she would experience before or after him--but not to experience the splintering, intoxicating ecstasy that was this man would be nothing short of tragic.
After the ending with the drama in the last book, this book made my heart race....truly race. I got to a point in the story that I couldn't walk away from it. I needed to finish what was going on!!! Chores? There are other days in the week, right?? I got caught up in the whirlwind of emotion and suspense that was going on. I needed to find out what happened. This book really had a good mix of sexy-time and suspense that made for a fantastic read. I really enjoyed this book! The epilogue in this book was nothing short of beautiful. Breathtaking, heartfelt and UH-Mazing. One of the best I have read in a verrrrry long time! Excellent finish to this very hot and sensual story of two headstrong adults who happen to meet because of fate.... <3
