The
synopsis for this book alone is compelling. It told me that I was in for a crazy
ride.
Second books always worry me in the way that it just won’t live up to
the hype of the first book, or they drag on to make the story long enough for
the third book and they just have fluff to make the beginning and the end come
together. FOR ME, that is a huge concern,
but man-o-man, did Kahlen deliver!!!! Yes. She most certainly did. I thoroughly
enjoyed this book….and I might go so far as to say that I think I liked it more
than Angel After Dark, and that was a 5*
review for me. This book went deeper into the love and lives of Alex and
Angel. Exploring their love on the level
that we did….we were just immersed in their powerful ‘love’. We really got to
see Alex discover his more emotional and loving side, along with his jealous
side, and I really think that Kahlen wrote it perfectly! I loved seeing that
Alex was just as shocked as we were at how deep he was falling! I enjoyed
watching the realization through his eyes…it just made it more ‘real’.
“What are you doing to me?” he
asked as his mouth dragged across her cheekbone. “I think of nothing but
touching you, my mouth on yours, being inside you….just being able to look at
you.”
This book also brought us deeper into the suspense side of the story as
well, dealing with Swanson and his goons, as well as how Cole was making a
significant impression in his new job under Alex’s management. We got to see more of Ally and Darian as
well. This book just really brought the secondary characters into the storyline
that were so well placed in the first book. And kudos to Kahlen for that.
Honestly, one of the best mergers I have seen in a while, where the characters
made this big of an entrance and you didn’t lose focus on the original story…it
embellished it. I really enjoyed seeing the story unfold.
Truth be told, I love the alpha love side of any love story. This story
was NO different for me. Alex’s domineering side played a pivotal role in this
story. It was truly sexy and it really sealed the deal for me. It was
believable, and he wasn’t out of control….I could really see this play out in real life!
“This is mine,” he said just before
his mouth claimed hers and he lost himself in her body. “No one fucking touches
you but me. Ever again.”
Mmmmm…..strong, sexy man. Yummy!!! This book was very explosive and
sensual. When Alex and Angel were together, time stood still. The love they had
and felt was beautiful. However, this is
also what caused the majority of the problems that Angel and Alex had to work
through. Both Angel and Alex’s stubbornness reared its ugly head, and the hurt
and anger felt by BOTH of them, it was
very well written. Once again, I felt the emotions and feelings that Alex and
Angel were feeling. There is one scene that the FEAR and the anger from Alex alone truly made me breathe funny!!!
Holding my breath as I read, it was like watching your biggest fear materialize
in front of you….man!! That was a rough scene! Rough, I tell ya. It was an
agonizing pain, the gripping emotions…oh my goodness. Well played Kahlen, well
played.
With the way this part of the story unfolded, it had the perfect ups
and downs needed for the angst to come into play. With everything going on with
Swanson, this allowed us to see the over-protective side to Alex and the strong,
yet very stubborn side of Angel. With a relationship status so new to Alex, and
Angel still not ‘trusting’ that it really was going to work, this just
compounded the feelings that were being thrown about. Was I feeling the stress
during this book? Yes…I most certainly was. This book was so much more angsty
than the first book. I had to stop and
message a friend-work out my feelings- JUST to get through this book. I am so
glad someone was on the other side to talk me down from the ledge!! At 80%, I
seriously think I was going to tear off all my nails in a matter of seconds
from my nerves…..and I loved it! I absolutely loved it. The turn of events
during this part choked me up. I wasn’t too sure how this book was going to
end, and knowing that I had to wait to read the next book….I was scared to
death. The painful emotions being thrown
around, and reading them as if I WAS LIVING THROUGH IT, it was
almost too much for me to handle. That’s how I know it was a really good,
angsty book….it had me nervous and it made me think. And because of that, I would
recommend this book to ANYONE.
Kahlen has a way with her words, with her storytelling, that really
gets the point across. This book was not slow, it didn’t stutter at all during
the delivery of this second part of the story. It reinforced my love of Kahlen’s
style.
“There was no surrender. There is
no escape in this,” he said with quiet urgency and reached for her hand. His
fingers were warm, his thumb rubbing over the smooth skin on the top of her
hand. “For either one of us.”
Once again, I easily give this an angsty 5 emotional stars. This book
captivated me and I couldn’t put it down.
I anxiously await book three, Promises After Dark, coming this summer.
This finale will be one of epic proportions based on the revelations from this
book. EPIC. I can’t wait to see how Alex and Angel’s story concludes and I know
I will smile like no other….

I knew from the get go, before reading the synopsis, that this series
was going to be hot….because Kahlen Aymes was writing it. I admit; I am biased
because I love her work. She was the first author I followed on Facebook back
when I read The Remembrance Trilogy. And she didn’t let me down.
Angel is a very strong woman in a very demanding job. Not bitchy, not
rude….but very straight to the point. She doesn’t let things muddle around and
makes sure everything has clear and precise rules. She is on it! Angel has long
gorgeous hair, a very fit and toned body, and a brain to boot. She is really a
very stunning woman, the whole package.
There was a softness about the
stranger that Alex found extremely appealing, like he could sink into her and
they would melt together, yet there was a tiger behind her expression. Alex
found the combination intriguing and unpretentious…
Alex is a business man. He knows how to work things, and he can wheel
and deal and make sure there are no missing links; after all, his business
depends on it. Alex is very handsome,
sexier beyond sexy and has a voice as smooth as velvet. He will melt your
panties off….I promise. I speak from
experience.
He was so fucking sexy: his scent,
his voice, his words and his body, the confident way he moved, how he knew
exactly how to please a woman.
Angel doesn’t do relationships. She has learned the hard way how they
work. She has a mutual agreement with a ‘friend’, and that takes care of her
needs. Alex is only in monogamous
‘business deals’ that mutually benefit each other and there are no messes to
clean up. This is the way they deal with relationships. Not very healthy, if you
ask me. Ha!
Hello??!? They are exactly alike…..YET
THEY FIGHT THEIR ATTRACTION!!!! Ok….so now that I have put that out there,
heed my advice: grab this book and find your favorite reading spot. I can’t
tell you enough that this book was the perfect opener for this series. Alex is
all alpha….and I love a good alpha. Maybe slightly
crazy, but I love them super controlling with a super sensitive and loving
side. Alex fit that bill to a “T”. He literally was perfect….perfect. He was so
hot, and it wasn’t overdone. And the best part is, Angel was not a weak minded
girl. She was very smart, but a bit stubborn. She has a good, cautious head on
her shoulders….and that is what causes the problems between them. Her mind
works over time, yet her body fights her the whole way.
The sexual tension vibrated in the
air between them, and they were both bristling in the plush leather seats of
the limousine. It was all Alex could do not to reach out and run his hand down
the smooth skin of her arm. Angel felt his glances like a physical caress.
Angel has it set in her mind that this relationship between the two of
them just won’t work based on their very first conversation they have. Alex is
very determined to make this relationship different from all his other ‘relationships’…..determined!!
After he finally gets her to go out with him, the sparks fly off the charts.
Off. The. Charts. This book had the
perfect work up in sexual tension and the right amount of angst to keep you going.
I loved this book….loved it! It read so easily and so PURE that I didn’t have
to put any pieces together….it all flowed so well.
These two are drawn to each other….it’s explosive, magnetic and
powerful. Their draw is one that was written so perfectly that it was very
‘real’ to me. I felt the angst, the giddiness, the raw sexual tension. I felt
it all. I also got to see the stubborn personal debates that Angel had with herself
about Alex. Alex struggled too, because he has never EVER had to deal with a
woman with such strength and determination, mixed with everything sexy.
“If you want to kiss me, then do
it,” she urged softly. “Do it.”
“No.” He shook his head and inhaled
deeply. “The next time my mouth is on yours it’s going to end in an orgasm or
two. Otherwise, I can’t go there.”
Angel and Alex have a lot to work through individually and together,
but when they are together, it is one that needs no words. I am just shaking my
head….as I was reading it, I would just get the chills and break out in goofy
grins!! I just soaked up their intimacy…..reading it was like being there;
feeling it, breathing it, enjoying it. I loved how they discovered each other’s
body and what made them tick. It was a beautiful and powerful love story.
….their incredible passion igniting
like spontaneous combustion. It was a living thing. Undeniable.
When something happened to break down their communication and problems
arise, Alex fights with everything he has to make sure she knows how he feels,
all the while making sure he understands how HE feels, which is very foreign to
him. The ending to this book is the
perfect lead up to the next book….it’s not a cliffhanger, but it makes you
yearn for more. More Alex and Angel. More sexiness. More romance. More emotion.
This really was an easy and angsty read with an amazing storyline. There was
some action and suspense added into the mix, but the love story made the book
hum. It moved along so well; the characters grew, the relationship was a very
believable and understandable one and the secondary characters played vital
roles and I loved how it all meshed together.
