Review:
4.5 Stars
This book
was a sweet, easy story….a down home, country lovin’ romance. I felt like I was
in the thick of the South. All I needed was a big tall glass of sweet tea and a
porch swing, and that would have been the perfect setting to read this book! It was an easy read and a very enjoyable one
at that.
Charley was
a sweet girl with her head on straight….she was on the swim team and was great
at it. She had the boyfriend that all the girls wanted. She was having a good
life. One night, she gets in a very bad situation….her life changes. Her future
changes, and she has to figure out what she is going to do. Dylan was her high
school boyfriend, the love of her life. In the blink of an eye on one awful
night, he is NO longer her boyfriend…..and she wants nothing more to do with
him. She has decided to change course and go to a different college…..forget
boys, forget the swim team….just LIVE LIFE. So, off she goes to a whole new
college, with a last minute change of mind.
She wanted to go and enjoy the college experience. She didn’t want to
have to worry about anything and just wanted to find herself.
There she
meets Jackalope Joe. Joe and Charley have instant chemistry. Their friendship
is easy and falls right into place…they don’t need to work on it, it just
works. I could totally smile and feel
the feelings between them growing….I really liked Joe. He sounded sexy and
sweet and oh so protective. School projects and nights out dancing bring them
closer than ever. When some happenings in her past come back to haunt her, Joe
steps up and becomes her protector. She feels very safe with him and is
becoming very comfortable with him being there to protect her. They spend some
nights together and become even closer…..very close.
“Charley, you are truly beautiful. I don’t know what you are
hiding or scared of, but I want to know you. All of you.” He gives me a
quick kiss on my forehead.
She finds
that Cash, her best friend since 4 years old and an ex-boyfriend, really means
more to her than she realized. They were together at one point….she’s even
trying to reconcile her feelings to herself about him.
Every time that boy touches me my insides get all warm. When
we were together before, it was great, but right now I can’t even explain it.
The problem is we aren’t together. I keep telling myself that he isn’t what I
want right now, but my body is definitely telling me something different.
When she
starts having drama follow her around and she is starting to get scared, Cash
starts to become more involved in her life again. He never stopped loving her
and she is realizing her love for him too. Weird to have both Joe and Cash
pining for her…? I think two very protective men are making sure she is safe.
She has a deep secret that ONLY Cash knows….but she finds herself having to
tell Joe and a few of her teammates. Certain happenings are starting to scare
Charley and are starting to involve her friend Joe, so now Joe and Cash work
together to make sure Charley is protected at all times. Charley is convinced
her and Joe are just friends…..and tries to tell Cash this as well.
“I’d love to believe that, but Charley, I’m a guy and I think
like a guy. If he likes you like I think you might kinda like him, he’s not
going to give up.”
Does
jealously play a role in this little “triangle”? Yes…I would say Cash is quite
jealous that Joe is there for her at any given moment, but he also understands
that it is what is needed to keep Charley safe. What Charley doesn’t understand
is how this drama is following her…..WHO is on the inside? Who is feeding this
crazy person information and pictures that keep showing up and scaring her?
This story
read very easily….it flowed and was a very clean read. I really enjoyed
it…..until the cliffhanger at the end. I am very saddened that I have to wait
until SPRING 2014 for the sequel to come out. If you don’t like cliffhangers,
and don’t have patience….you might want to wait on reading this book. I had to
take some time before writing the review. I really enjoyed the book, but I
don’t like how it ended…..
I give this
cute, easy read 4.5 stars for the intrigue and the fun behind the characters
and how it all worked itself out…..the only stop for the 5th star is
the way it ended and the wait for the next book. All in all, I would recommend
this book to anyone if they want a quick and easy fun read. I can’t WAIT for
the next book to come out….I really can’t!!
Love,
Bethany
