Make it a Double
The Last Call Series #2
SYNOPSIS:
Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.
Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.
Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.
While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.
Review:
5 Stars
**This
book is #2 in The Last Call series, but it is considered a standalone series.**
We met Brody in the first book, On The Rocks (Hunter and Gabby’s
story), and got a sneak peek into his world from his twin brothers perspective.
Brody works as a bartender with Hunter at his bar on the beach. It isn’t what
Brody aspires to be, but it pays the bills and keeps the Parole Officer happy. Brody
has been in prison for the last five years…which in turn makes him a brooding,
difficult man. He is withdrawn and never smiles or engages anyone in
conversation. He is truly an introvert at this point. His life was shattered
and he had to start all over since that fateful night years ago.
In this book we get to learn more about Brody and what happened…..we
also learn that he is carrying some serious guilt and harboring a secret. Brody really is a broken man, but he is
determined to move on with his life and not let anyone feel sorry for him and
pity him. He is handsome and sexy, but doesn’t act the part of a self-righteous
prick. I loved his character!
Not that Brody needs help in the
attractiveness department, but there’s clearly something there other than his
stunning face and rock-hard body that a woman such as myself would find
immensely appealing. ~Alyssa
Alyssa is a very strong, very independent woman that comes from money;
however, she does not act like it. She isn’t rude or pretentious. She is strong
willed, knows what she wants and goes after it. And I mean that she does NOT
back down and gives as good as she gets. It was so refreshing seeing a very strong
female lead and she was beautiful inside and out, but never had the woe is me
side to her. I loved her!!
Standing before me, looking more
beautiful than the last time I saw her….
She is a sight to behold, and a
complete contradiction.
Her beauty is classic…..
Like I said…absolutely gorgeous and
yet, I still can’t stand the sight of her. ~Brody
Brody has to do some volunteer work as part of his parole requirements.
After Alyssa invited him to work out at The Haven with her, he shot her down.
He didn’t want to work with a ‘rich bitch heiress’. However, finding herself put
into a predicament that brings out Brody’s perfect gentlemanliness, he ends up
helping her out one day in a pinch. After seeing Alyssa work at The Haven, he
gains a better understanding of her and seriously rethinks his thoughts about
her and decides he wants to help her and volunteer with her.
Little by little, Alyssa and Brody are thrown together in different
scenarios and Brody starts to feel something for her, but he is struggling with
his feelings toward Alyssa because he thinks they can’t be together and she
deserves better. He really is a true gentleman and is an amazing person deep
down; he just hides under this brooding facade.
He eventually has come to terms with the fact that she is not like the
other “rich bitch heiresses” out there and regrets the fact that he called her
that. Watching their relationship blossom was really an honest look into
Brody’s heart.
Fuck, but this woman has my insides
twisted. I want her to kiss me, but I don’t. I want to fuck her hard and all
night, but I can’t. I want her to tell me other things she sees about me, but
I’m afraid of what I might hear.
However, Alyssa has a problem that won’t seem to go away….and this is
where the protective side of Brody comes out in full force. I fell so hard for
him. I love a super protective, hot alpha male that knows what’s “his”. He always made sure she was taken care of,
regardless if she wanted that or not. He was going to make sure she didn’t have
anything to worry about and seeing this side of him just made him so uber sexy
to me!!
He is all male…raw, powerful,
magnificent.
Brody’s deep secret was supposed to remain just that: a secret.
However, when his secret happens to come out in a not so discreet way, Alyssa
finds herself a little freaked out! The push and pull of emotions is very
apparent and it really sets the pace for Alyssa’s actions. I loved seeing how
they worked so well with each other and how Alyssa pulled Brody out of his
shell and showed him what true love really was.
This love story is definitely one that is swoon worthy. I really truly
fell for all things Brody. His attitude, his protectiveness, his tenderness; he
is everything needed in a real man. OMG. Yum.
It is simply the most
beautiful experience of my life, and I just kissed my soul goodbye for good.
This book was SO good…..so worthy of a recommendation and 5 swoony
stars for Brody alone!! This was a love story that beat all the odds
and it truly was super sexy. Love Brody!!! Love him….
Love,
Bethany
