~ SYNOPSIS ~
Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father's demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father's money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar. Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he's willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father's punishment is over.

REVIEW ~
4.5 Stars!
McFarland’s Farm by Cardeno C. was my second ever gay romance
book, and once again I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.
“Each
day’s schedule mimicked the one before – wake up at sunrise, work with the
organic produce he grew in greenhouses throughout his property, warm up dinner,
eat alone, and go to bed, also alone.”
Right off the bat I connected with Jared. I felt his loneliness, I felt sympathy
for him and his situation. Hands down, my heart ached for him. He craved what
every hopeless romantic has ever wanted….a happily
ever after. He wanted someone to come home to after working long hours on
the farm, someone to share meals with, someone to love… Unfortunately, living a small town didn’t make that easy for
him. Not that the people there didn’t accept him, but he wanted to avoid
unnecessary drama in case the relationship didn’t work out. I mean, there are
only so many places you can go in a small town and not run into someone you
know. And so, he stayed single…and alone.
Enter Lucas.
Lucas was Susan’s half-brother and Susan was Jared’s
ex-wife. Yes, you read that right.
Jared and Susan were high school sweethearts that married young, but then they
both realized that while they loved each other, their love wasn’t one meant to
be shared between a married couple. So they got divorced, but that didn’t mean
they stopped being friends. Susan wanted the best for Jared and she wanted him
to finally get his happy ending. So, she asked him for a favor….
“…spending
time away from his friends and the whole LA scene is the best chance Lucas has
of getting his head on straight.”
Lucas kept screwing his life up, so his dad gave him
an ultimatum: spend time at Jared’s farm or get financially cut off. To say
Lucas was less than thrilled would be an understatement. When he arrived at
Hope, he acted like a spoiled brat. He was rude beyond belief and downright snobbish.
Jared was a patient saint, let me
tell you. I would not have put up with Lucas’ crap. Thankfully, Lucas started
seeing things differently and everything started changing…..
“…he
sat in his kitchen, holding Lucas’ hand, talking about the most difficult
moments in his life, and feeling safety and peace instead of panic and nerves.”
Lucas and Jared both started sharing a strong
connection with each other. They both
started developing strong feelings for each other, but one thing remained –
Lucas was there temporarily. Or was he?
Luckily, Jared and Lucas made a brave decision. They
had both suffered enough pain and loss and so they didn’t allow their fears to
keep them from being happy….together.
HELL YEAH!! I was a happy reader with
that ending! Did I wish the story was longer? Yes. I would have loved to
see their relationship progress more into the future, but overall, it was a
great and happy ending. I absolutely loved Jared and Lucas!!! If you’re in
the mood for a short, loving, and hot romance, one-click McFarland’s Farm.
