Book Review: Garrett by Sawyer Bennett

Title: Garrett
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Series: Cold Fury Hockey #2

~ SYNOPSIS ~
Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

5 Beautiful, but tense stars!
~OMG~
Ok....this book hit on some points that I swore I wouldn't ever read, but boy am I glad that I did. This book had sexiness, wittiness, a beautiful, honest love and it had ANGST. More angst in this ONE book than all of Sawyer's books combined, I swear!!!! But this book also had some emotional torture. I was really worried as I started to read this story because of the nature of Olivia's medical issues, but I had to calm myself down because I knew I could trust my heart to Sawyer Bennett and KNOW that she wouldn't mess me up....at least, not too bad.

 I felt it.
I needed more of it.
I couldn't put it down.
I wanted to hug Olivia and nurture her.
I may have wanted to run my fingers through Garrett's hair by the time the book was over.

Now, to explain. I highlighted so much of this book that I need to really take a minute to gather my thoughts on what this book made me feel and how it twisted me up!

We met Garrett in Alex's book and I knew immediately that I was going to like him. He was sexiness, mixed in with a dose of pure gentlemanliness. <--that might not be a word, but he was a total gentleman and very manly. Garrett was also a manwhore. He wasn't settling down anytime soon.
Yes....he liked the ladies.
A lot.
A gentleman and a manwhore....such a contradiction, right? But it was so very true. But he loved hockey more than anything. And everything.

Don't get me wrong. I love women and love fucking them. But they take a backseat to hockey...my one true love. Always have, always will.

Have you ever just seen someone and thought you needed to meet them? Yes....He saw Olivia, and HE needed to meet HER. He was drawn to her and I loved the way they met. Absolutely loved it!! I was totally rooting for them too....they had chemistry from the get-go. Garrett is so used to getting what he wants, when he wants it because, well, he is that handsome and has an air of confidence that can melt panties within reach. Seriously. So, Olivia became that next goal for him. However, she knows of him and his 'ways' and she doesn't want that in her life.

She's thrown a bit of a challenge for me, and while an easy conquest is fun for the most part, it can get boring. I don't mind having to work toward my goals, and getting Olivia Case into my bed has become one of my main priorities at this point.

Olivia is dealing with something serious. Something beyond comprehension for me because I have never had to think along those lines, so I just wanted to snatch her up and hug her. I read this story in awe of her and she was so inspiring, and her way of thinking was just SO refreshing. I wanted to hold her and be her friend and just 'be' there. Sad to say I will never fill those shoes....she has Stevie. Her over the top, absolutely hilarious best friend. I absolutely, hands down, no-questions-asked, LOVED Stevie!!!!!

Loved. LOVED. LOVED!!!

I want to point out that the characters in this story were written with such precision and their character development was superb. Just.....so easy to fall in love with each character in this book. We got to see a little bit of Alex and Sutton in this book as well, and I really enjoyed the parts they played in Garrett and Olivia's story. Alex especially played an impressive role in this story and I loved seeing this side to him. I (*shakes my head*) just want to hug Olivia and shake Alex's hand. Such an emotional journey.....I am still reeling from all the feels.

While I hated that she was going through this, I also knew I wouldn't trade this experience for the world. Every step I took with her on this journey brought us closer together, bound my heart to hers more tightly. I think I knew in that moment that I had fallen in love with her.

This, to me, was the most emotional of all of Sawyer's books and I found myself gasping at times at what was going on. I was so glued to this story that I stayed in bed ALL day and devoured it (in between naps, of course!!). I wanted to curl up in a ball, immerse myself in the emotions that I was feeling and just soak it all in. It had banter, which I loved. It had sexiness, which I really enjoy and it had me biting my nails down to the very last few pages because it had me on the edge of my seat (ok, my bed) while I read about what was going on. I love angst and crave it in books....and Sawyer hit the nail on the head with this one.

So good.
So.Very.Good.
I love Garrett.

Once again, Sawyer spoiled me with an excellent book. Absolutely excellent. <sigh>
