THE SPIRIT by d.Nichole King

Villisca was home to the infamous Axe Murder House…

Then in walked Lucas…

Within days, Carrie knew she was in love. But Lucas seemed strange: his hands were cool and hollow, he barely touched his food, and there was sadness behind his brilliant green eyes.

Lucas was falling for Carrie but knowing that loving her puts her in grave danger, he reluctantly slips out of her life….

THE SOUL by d. Nichole King
The Spirit Trilogy #3
Paranormal Romance
— SYNOPSIS —
A soul is not meant to be severed from its spirit.

Neither is it meant to be ripped in two.

Half of Lucas’s soul is lost, and the rest he forfeited to save Carrie’s life. Now, the piece residing in her calls out for unity, and the cry is too much for her to bear. Her spirit suffers, and Lucas fears for her life.

The connection between the couple grows, but so does the evil pursuing them.

When Carrie falls into the clutches of a demon, she and Lucas realize Hell is invested in their search for his soul. Demons know Villisca is without a necromancer, and that Carrie sees the auras of supernaturals. So they offer Carrie a deal.

A prophecy is given. A choice is made.

Love is supposed to conquer all, but the closer Lucas and Carrie come to merging his soul, the more ephemeral their future together appears. When the price is finally revealed—
More than one life is at stake.

* *PLEASE NOTE: All three books HAVE TO BE READ IN ORDER. They are NOT standalone novels.

"With him, time ceased to exist. We were one.
One spirit. One body. One soul.
Whole. Complete."

THIS SERIES.
Wow.
What. A. Journey.
An emotional journey at that.

I'm left suffering from one of the biggest book-hangovers this year. I'm also feeling very conflicted and I'm unsure as how to even type out this review.

One thing I know for sure....
My feelings are very much raw right now...
I feel like sitting in a corner and crying the day away.

Now, going in, I thought these books were Paranormal, not Paranormal Romance, so I was very much pleased with the surprise that they were, in fact, very romantic. (I only read blurbs ONCE so by the time I go to read the actual book, I've most likely forgotten what it's even about—which I love doing and was clearly the case here.) That said, the series was also very paranormal to the point where I've found myself feeling creeped out and even scared.

D. Nichole King's writing was flawless. I had no problem picturing each and every single scene unfold before me. I mostly read during the night, so suffice it to say, I had been sleeping with a nightlight, especially while reading book 1: The Spirit.

As I swiped the pages, I got more and more emotionally invested in Carrie and Lucas and their journey. I NEEDED them to get their HEA. I need it just as much as they wanted it. If I'm 500% honest, I was terrified—no, more like petrified—that their journey wouldn't end well come book 3, The Soul. From the very beginning something pulled at my heart and had me very nervous, but I kept on reading. I kept falling in love with Lucas.

Lucas was the definition of an epic book boyfriend and his relationship with Carrie was one full of true love and passion. Their relationship was one that I know I will always cherish and hold close to my heart.

The secondary characters in this trilogy brought the general storyline to life. They made it feel complete and I loved them just as much as I loved Lucas and Carrie. Reid was one of my favorites, I must admit. He was intriguing, funny, and damn sexy. Mike...well, I liked him A LOT from the very beginning, and until Lucas showed up, I wanted him to end up with Carrie. But like I said, until Lucas showed up. Megan, Jess, and Stacey were the type of friends every girl wants to have in her life. Truthfully, they were just what Carrie needed. They each had a different role in Carrie's life, but at the end of it all, they each provided an important piece to the puzzle that was Carrie's emotional journey.

As the trilogy progressed, a TON of twists and turns, ups and downs came along with its development. I was hooked. As terrified as I was to continue reading, I couldn't stop! I need to find out what was going to happen next. I was captivated.

D. Nichole is an author you need to stop and check out. These books will FOREVER stay with me, and because of all the EMOTIONS they provoked from me, I must give all three books a FIVE-STAR RATING. This trilogy has made my TOP 2016 FAVORITES LIST.

P.S.
I sure do hope there are more books to this series!! Reid should get a book and....Mike too! 😉

*** STOP READING HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE ENDING. WHILE I WON'T GIVE IT AWAY, THIS IS A BIT SPOILERY. I WILL ONLY DISCUSS MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE ENDING, NOT THE ACTUAL ENDING, BUT SOME MIGHT FEEL IT'S A SPOILER.

As I continued to read book 3, The Soul, my heart started to ache.
Then...it started to really hurt.
Then....it broke
More like, it got shattered into a thousand pieces.

As revelations happened, everything started to make sense. The story was coming full circle.
As the ending approached, I understood why it all happened the way it did.
Did it make it any easier? No.
Did I cry? No. I SOBBED.

However, as I reached the final pages of The Soul, I felt my heart healing.
Did it mean I was happy with the ending? No.
Is there a happy ending? Yes, in many ways there is and a lot of people might answer this question with a "yes, hands-down". Is it one I'm happy with? No. To me, it's not fully a HEA.
Do I understand it, however? Yes.

Would I recommend this trilogy? YES.
I feel like Lucas is a book boyfriend you all should meet and fall in love with.
Now, excuse me while I go and think about Carrie and Lucas and their epic love story.
