PAIN by Amanda Mackey
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
Release Date: January 5, 2016
- SYNOPSIS -

Life is sweet in The Sanctuary—until Lillian Harris is thrown the curveball of her life.

Lillian is perfectly happy cocooned within the lofty perimeter fence of The Sanctuary. Her Sanctuary—a vast oasis for rescued lions, tigers, and elephants. The animals are her world. So when Lillian’s dad tells her a nineteen-year-old criminal who’s fresh out of prison is coming to The Sanctuary as part of a rehabilitation program, Lillian is more than a little apprehensive. She interacts with animals more than humans—and definitely not criminals.

Justice Armstrong is more arrogant than a Silverback, but something darker lurks behind his eyes…

It isn’t until Justice swaggers toward her from the parole officer’s car—pierced, confident, and more than a little hot—Lillian knows she has her work cut out for her. His stare has the power to rob her of all thoughts. His words, although crude and nefarious, bring a part of her to life she never knew existed. How is this criminal suddenly turning her world upside down?

He has the power to drag her to the dark side....

Pain is his drug of choice, a vice he can’t survive without. Then he meets Lillian Harris. Little miss hellcat. Fiery, strong, and all woman. She challenges him at every damn turn, and watching her tame those fierce big cats makes his need for her that much stronger. He wants to do things to her…wicked things. She makes him crave pain in a whole new way.

When a teen with a dark past bumps heads with a feisty rescue worker, will it be love over lust—or a matter of life and death?

- REVIEW: 4 STARS -
Pain was my first novel by Amanda Mackey and it won’t be my last! This author can surely create emotional and angst-driven storylines with intriguing characters!

“Princess, I don’t deserve an ounce of your time. I’ve lived most of my life on the wrong side of the law. I’ve tossed women aside as if they were nothing. I’ve slept in gutters.”

Justice had a ROUGH childhood. Heartbreakingly rough. He was now a guy that didn’t trust anyone and quite frankly, he had every right to be that way. What he had been put through was enough to break even the toughest man…and Justice was only a child when it happened to him. He was angry, hurt….broken.

“…she was strong. I’d never come up against a woman who could look me in the eye and call my bullshit.”

Lil and her father ran an animal Sanctuary  and they were now starting a project where they would help troubled ‘kids’ find their way again through volunteering there. That’s how Justice and Lil met. Suffice it to say, he was NOT impressed with his new, temporary home. Little did he know, however, his life was about to change. Justice and Lil did not get off to a great start, but their connection was so strong, they couldn’t ignore it.

“I can’t define what it is that you do to me, but you’re the only person ever that makes me feel something other than anger. When we’re here like this, I almost feel like the me I’m supposed to be.”

Justice and Lil’s story has its ups and downs and a few heart-pounding scenes. That bathroom scene towards the end? Whoa. I was NERVOUS while reading. Oh, my! Well done, Ms. Mackey! I look forward to reading more books from this author!
