THE CELLAR by Natasha Preston #BookReview

THE CELLAR by Natasha Preston
Now a New York Times bestseller! A gripping, ripped-the-headlines thriller from writing sensation Natasha Preston.

"Lily?"

My stomach dropped as a tall, dark-haired man stepped into view. Had he been hiding between the trees?

"No. Sorry." Gulping, I took a step back. "I'm not Lily."

He shook his head, a satisfied grin on his face. "No. You are Lily."

"I'm Summer. You have the wrong person." You utter freak!

I could hear my pulse crashing in my ears. How stupid to give him my real name. He continued to stare at me, smiling. It made me feel sick.

"You are Lily," he repeated.

Before I could blink, he threw his arms forward and grabbed me. I tried to shout, but he clasped his hand over my mouth, muffling my screams. My heart raced. I'm going to die.

For months Summer is trapped in a cellar with the man who took her—and three other girls: Rose, Poppy, and Violet. His perfect, pure flowers. His family. But flowers can't survive long cut off from the sun, and time is running out...

— REVIEW: 4 STARS
My first book by Natasha Preston and it won't be my last. I'm a fan of suspense/mystery/thriller novels and this one was right up my alley.

I must admit that the general storyline did remind me of a Criminal Minds episode, but unlike the show, here we got the story from the POV of the victim, her boyfriend (loved Lewis!!!!), and the psychopath himself.

I really liked the characters (although Rose did get a little bit on my last nerve) and the author's writing style; it was easy to follow. I did feel like the story dragged a bit, though. There were parts that could've been developed more, but instead, I feel like time was wasted dragging out the story overall. This is the only reason I can't give this book a 5 star rating. That said, it truly was a book I enjoyed and can easily recommend to others.

I absolutely loved Summer's boyfriend! Lewis was kind, loving, and very protective. He never gave up on finding Summer and that made him an amazing book boyfriend for me. He went out every day, along with Henry, and searched everywhere! He even got in trouble a couple of times, but that didn't matter because to him, nothing was more important than finding Summer. Swoon!

Summer was strong. Even though she had to "play along" to Clover's rules and lifestyle for almost a year, she never really lost who she truly was. I cannot imagine how I would react to or deal with the situations she encountered! I also liked how the author touched on dark subjects but didn't go into details, making this a YA book I could potentially share with my son who loves reading.

I certainly look forward to reading the other books by Natasha Preston, some of which are looking FABULOUS on my bookshelf thanks to my wonderful husband!!
