Blog Tours Stop: "Make it a Double" by Sawyer Bennett

Make it a Double
The Last Call Series #2
SYNOPSIS:
Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Review:
5 Stars

**This book is #2 in The Last Call series, but it is considered a standalone series.**

We met Brody in the first book, On The Rocks (Hunter and Gabby’s story), and got a sneak peek into his world from his twin brothers perspective. Brody works as a bartender with Hunter at his bar on the beach. It isn’t what Brody aspires to be, but it pays the bills and keeps the Parole Officer happy. Brody has been in prison for the last five years…which in turn makes him a brooding, difficult man. He is withdrawn and never smiles or engages anyone in conversation. He is truly an introvert at this point. His life was shattered and he had to start all over since that fateful night years ago.

In this book we get to learn more about Brody and what happened…..we also learn that he is carrying some serious guilt and harboring a secret.  Brody really is a broken man, but he is determined to move on with his life and not let anyone feel sorry for him and pity him. He is handsome and sexy, but doesn’t act the part of a self-righteous prick. I loved his character!

Not that Brody needs help in the attractiveness department, but there’s clearly something there other than his stunning face and rock-hard body that a woman such as myself would find immensely appealing. ~Alyssa

Alyssa is a very strong, very independent woman that comes from money; however, she does not act like it. She isn’t rude or pretentious. She is strong willed, knows what she wants and goes after it. And I mean that she does NOT back down and gives as good as she gets. It was so refreshing seeing a very strong female lead and she was beautiful inside and out, but never had the woe is me side to her. I loved her!!

Standing before me, looking more beautiful than the last time I saw her….
She is a sight to behold, and a complete contradiction.
Her beauty is classic…..
Like I said…absolutely gorgeous and yet, I still can’t stand the sight of her. ~Brody

Brody has to do some volunteer work as part of his parole requirements. After Alyssa invited him to work out at The Haven with her, he shot her down. He didn’t want to work with a ‘rich bitch heiress’. However, finding herself put into a predicament that brings out Brody’s perfect gentlemanliness, he ends up helping her out one day in a pinch. After seeing Alyssa work at The Haven, he gains a better understanding of her and seriously rethinks his thoughts about her and decides he wants to help her and volunteer with her.

Little by little, Alyssa and Brody are thrown together in different scenarios and Brody starts to feel something for her, but he is struggling with his feelings toward Alyssa because he thinks they can’t be together and she deserves better. He really is a true gentleman and is an amazing person deep down; he just hides under this brooding facade.  He eventually has come to terms with the fact that she is not like the other “rich bitch heiresses” out there and regrets the fact that he called her that. Watching their relationship blossom was really an honest look into Brody’s heart.

Fuck, but this woman has my insides twisted. I want her to kiss me, but I don’t. I want to fuck her hard and all night, but I can’t. I want her to tell me other things she sees about me, but I’m afraid of what I might hear.

However, Alyssa has a problem that won’t seem to go away….and this is where the protective side of Brody comes out in full force. I fell so hard for him. I love a super protective, hot alpha male that knows what’s “his”.  He always made sure she was taken care of, regardless if she wanted that or not. He was going to make sure she didn’t have anything to worry about and seeing this side of him just made him so uber sexy to me!!

He is all male…raw, powerful, magnificent.

Brody’s deep secret was supposed to remain just that: a secret. However, when his secret happens to come out in a not so discreet way, Alyssa finds herself a little freaked out! The push and pull of emotions is very apparent and it really sets the pace for Alyssa’s actions. I loved seeing how they worked so well with each other and how Alyssa pulled Brody out of his shell and showed him what true love really was.  This love story is definitely one that is swoon worthy. I really truly fell for all things Brody. His attitude, his protectiveness, his tenderness; he is everything needed in a real man. OMG. Yum.

It is simply the most beautiful experience of my life, and I just kissed my soul goodbye for good.

This book was SO good…..so worthy of a recommendation and 5 swoony stars for Brody alone!! This was a love story that beat all the odds and it truly was super sexy. Love Brody!!! Love him….

Love,
Bethany

Blog Tour Stop: "FREED" by Lynetta Halat

Freed Blog Tour Banner

FREED
(Unlovable #2)
Synopsis:
Truth. Pain. Freedom. An awakening like no other. When life is determined to buck you off, dig in and ride hard. The bull. The most dangerous lies are the ones we tell ourselves. To survive, I have to face the truth. Easier said than done when it’s not all black and white. There’s the in-between, and this murky void is where I always tend to land. The horns. Lies don’t always hurt. My lies protected me, but when they are exposed and I can no longer outrun the many shades of truth, I’ll be in for one hell of a reckoning. The ride. From the outside, my life looks like one big adventure after another. But, there is no freedom in anarchy, and that’s the way I’ve lived my life. Until now. Until Ransom. Denver Dempsey was a slut for oblivion. Now, she’s a slut for love. And it’s that kind of thinking that got her in trouble in the first place. Ransom awakens Denver in ways she never imagined, but when her true feelings send her reeling, will they catapult her into the arms of Greer—her ex best-friend-with-benefits? After never loving anyone, herself included, she now loves two. One kept her alive. One teaches her how to live. If they didn’t both love her … if hearts weren’t bound to be broken, it would be the stuff dreams are made of. Will Denver remain locked up in the bullpen, or is she strong enough to open the chute and be freed?

Review:
3.5 - 4 Stars

After the slight cliffy from Used…..I was really looking forward to this book. I truly needed more Ransom. *Needed* Do NOT read this review or book until you have read Used….because while this book review will NOT contain spoilers for Freed, it will for Used.

I imagine him standing over me, gazing down on me like he owns me……because he does. ~Denver

Denver has had a rough time of things; she had a horrible experience with Greer and has to honestly come to terms with what their relationship is….or isn’t. Finding that common ground that they can both accept and come to terms with isn’t exactly easy. They went from each other’s everything to each other’s friend, one that doesn’t necessarily talk to the other daily. Seeing this breakdown in their relationship has implications and causes a lot of heartache. I know that Greer loved Denver, but he messed up in the most epic way possible. He eventually got around to having a sit down with Denver and being able to explain to her everything he was thinking as it happened, and the after effects of what it caused. It was hard….and clear as mud, because nothing is black and white with Denver and Greer’s relationship. Nothing.

Thankfully she has a MAN in Ransom to lean on. Ransom is ALL man. All swoon and all sex appeal. He is the literal definition of HOT. I fell in love with him in USED and feel that he lived up to everything I thought he was in this book. Calm, cool and collected. Ransom truly was a solid rock that Denver had. He knew what Denver needed most in order to heal, but also knew when she had to learn a lesson as well. I love that he trusted her, but he was also there to protect her. He really was ALL man and protector and alpha and and and….

I revel in the fact that Ransom has always known what I needed—when I needed tenderness; when I needed tough love; when I needed to be held and coddled. He’s pretty amazing like that. ~Denver

This book, to me, was the perfect book that showed growth in Denver and her personal life. We watched Denver and Greer try to repair what was left of their friendship and we got to see Denver grow and try to come out of her shell. Ransom was really good for her and he helped her immensely.

To trust someone with all that I am, and willingly give them the power to destroy me? Sounds ludicrous for someone like me since I’ve never allowed anyone that close—not my parents, not my former so-called friends, not Greer—no one, ever. ~Denver

Denver and Ransom are really getting closer and their relationship is progressing along quite nicely. We found out in Used about his ‘preferences’ and what he needed in a relationship….and I enjoyed that side of it. Denver and Ransom explore his “likes” and we learned right along with Denver how he liked things. We also got to see her come into her own and learn the way that he likes to do things, and she seemed to really enjoy that side of ‘pleasing’ Ransom. She had to learn the very definition of trust just to allow herself to give her whole heart to Ransom.

How is it that I trust him more than I’ve ever trusted anyone in my life, yet barely even know him? ~Denver

Ransom won’t allow Denver to give herself to him fully until he feels she is ready…..and the playing they do?? Holy cow, there were some hot scenes of the two of them together. He really showed restraint and gave as much as was needed by Denver. I really loved the way he helped her ‘see’ things and learn things. He was so patient and so understanding. I saw a comment online that he is being referred to as the “Baby Dom”, and that description couldn’t be any more accurate.

“I want your willful submission, Denver, meaning you want that too with your mind—“ I trace my finger over her temple “—your heart—“ I tap her heart before flattening my palm over it “—and your soul.” ~Ransom

3.5-4 stars for this book that allowed us to see Denver come into her own and for Ransom to prove his worth to her. There was significant growth in every main character in this book. Greer grew and learned a valuable lesson; Denver learned trust and Ransom found what he had been searching for all along….in Denver.  There was a HUGE revelation in this book that still has me questioning how everything honestly worked out, but it also made me look back at what I had previously read and analyze it for what was said and how it was implied. HUGE game changer…..I was completely and utterly blown away.

Have you ever seen a wreck about to happen and felt powerless to stop it? In the aftermath, everything you can think to do is not enough. Would it even make things worse? That’s how I’ve felt about my life over the last few years. I seized control over it using the only means I knew. Only, it wasn’t right. It wasn’t enough, and it made things worse. Then….John Ransom. His name is an entire sentence. He’s the first one the scene, the Jaws of Life, and the medic. He knows just what to do, and not only that, he’s good at showing you what to do, too.

Love,
Bethany

SERIES REVIEW:
Book 1: 4.5 Stars
Book 2: 4 Stars

If you are anything like me, you love a LONG series, but wait to get them ALL and THEN read them. No? Ok….I will be alone. But I absolutely LOVE getting the whole series and then sitting down and indulging in an overnight binge of multiple books!!! I love to dive into books and get immersed….that is me.

Having said that, I loved LOVED jumping into this series. This was a deep, heavy series in the love department. It wasn’t dark or anything like that. It was just a man in control and he sees a snarky mouthed girl that he wants to have. Just to have, for one night. Because he doesn’t do relationships….at all. He has arm candy when needed, but he doesn’t need much more than that.

I know this sounds like a few other books we may have already read, but this one took on such a good undertone, and the girl was not weak. I loved that she had a head on her shoulders, a job and her own place to stay, all with good friends by her side. I really enjoyed this story….a lot.

When Hayley and Daniel meet, it’s because Tash, her best friend, drags her along to a job interview. Hayley and her smart mouth run into a guy in the break room and her mouth totally gets her into trouble….in a sinfully sexy and good way. This beginning meeting totally sets up the storyline for me. It allowed me to get to know Hayley and her witty banter, but also see the playful but dominant side to Daniel.

Standing there is the very picture of hot, tall and sinful. White tee, jeans, and the most alluring bad boy stance. Something in his crooked smile inexplicably leaves me dumbfounded. For the space of a moment, I am lost in him.

I love a man that is all alpha and has a story behind his broodiness. Daniel Stark is a private and very generous man. He is super ridiculously sexy and his presence is titillating. He works hard for his money and lives the life that he is accustomed to, but makes sure he gives of his gains as well. He truly is an honorable man. He just has…..control issues. He knows what he wants….and he gets it.

As Daniel finds that Hayley is a taste of what he wants, he goes after it. But only a taste. He doesn’t need it all….he doesn’t want it all. He wants her in the flesh. Hayley wants him, so it should just work out, right? She pretty  much has the notion that love is wonky and not real, so she uses the men for her ‘needs’ and moves on. So Daniel is perfect for her….a good tryst and an easy goodbye. But that doesn’t happen. Nope….they both feel something that they aren’t exactly sure about. And seeing it play out? Magical probably isn’t the word…..but it was just really neat what the power of love can do to someone.

Who is fighting who in the feelings department? Love never has clear lines drawn out, so when you get sucked in, who decides where one heart starts and the other ends?

The end of book one broke me….it broke me. The pain and the heartache that poured off the pages? The massive misunderstanding that caused a substantial upheaval of the story? Yeah. That happened. I was left there with my mouth open and shaking my head. No!! No!! That couldn’t happen to them….no!! I wasn’t going to accept it.

Thankfully book two was just around the corner for me.  I do not like to give away too much in books and feel telling too much of the second book gives away a lot, but I will say that the first book was such an epic buildup of sexual tension and feelings, that the second book gave us more of the ups and downs as the relationship progressed.  I saw more of a fight from Hayley in this book and I personally feel it’s because the relationship got more off kilter and more serious than she had ever anticipated.

As much as I want him—with an almost irrational need—I also clearly know that I couldn’t possibly let myself be vulnerable again, as I unquestionably am when it comes to Daniel.

This book also showed us serious internal struggles coming from Hayley. She is so strong willed and to see her battle as much as she did, that made this book the hardest one to get through.  Daniel was uber swoony still and seriously wanted to up the ante in the relationship, one that Hayley fought constantly.

This debacle gives new meaning to the word clusterfuck.

Book one was such an enveloping story that I JUST HAD TO READ it all. I had to. I wanted to and loved being immersed in it. The alpha in Daniel and the snarky Hayley made for very easy banter, love and friendship. I loved it!!. Book one was a 4.5 star read for me because it kept me engaged, there wasn’t any unnecessary drama and it made me yearn for more.

Book two was a really good finish to the entire storyline. I LOVED the ending….and the epilogue ranks right up there as one of my absolute favorite ones. A good book and a fantastic epilogue? Yes!! I thought about it for a few days after.  The book as a whole was a 4 star read for me because there was a tad bit more drama than I wanted to read, but it did NOT take away from the storyline; it was still an excellent finishing book for the series. It just isn’t my favorite kind of drama. I will say this….the ‘threat’ that threatened to tear them apart literally had tears in my eyes and panic in my heart. Because, knowing the love that I share with my husband….it made ME put myself in Hayley’s shoes and it tore me up.  Well done…..well done.

I am anxious to read more from Sigal as she has a way with her words, but she did a spectacular job with Daniel. He was perfect to me. Swoony, brooding, over-bearing and controlling perfection wrapped up in the body of a god. Yummy. <3

Love,
Bethany
